BEC-BCS crossover is usually considered as a crossover. We have recently describe it as a topological quantum phase transition using Z2 Berry phase. The BEC is a pairing of fermions in real space (a kind of bi-polaron) and the BCS is a Cooper pairing of fermions in momentum space. It implies the two types of the pairings are distinguished topologically using the Z2 Berry phases. [Phys. Rev. B], [arXiv]
